A couple of weeks ago the mechatronics academy recorded our rocky talks. These were speeches that everyone had to write and deliver. These had to be related to education in some way mine was supporting the academy. These speeches were a great experience for everyone some people had not much experience being in front of a large group and I believe this project helped them get more comfortable. Personally, I felt very confident while speaking. I believe this is because I have been teaching students Taekwondo for several years. If you want to watch my speech it is the video below.

For the last week, the mechatronics academy has been hard at work with our new engineering design challenge. The challenge I am talking about is the minefield challenge. The challenge goes like this two groups are put up against each other in an arena, depending on how many mines they collect without knocking them over they will get a different amount of points depending on where they were disposed of. When the match starts you will first have 30 seconds of autonomous code and another 90 seconds of remote control time. Now that you understand the idea I am going to explain my groups approach to building and designing our robot. When we had all of our different designs together we came to a consensus to use my design because it was compact, and could store two balls. This part of the design made ours probably one of the most efficient. At the end of the challenge, we made it to the semi-finals, we only lost due to loosing balls and the opponent having a very good autonomous code.
In the mechatronics academy for the second half of the year, we have had another challenge other than just engineering challenges. This challenge is the Passion Projects these are a large project that focuses on a topic that you are interested in. These projects must be approved by Mr Everett before you can start them, and since some of these projects are rather big they can be completed in a group or individually. From my experience the idea of a passion project is great! This is because since the projects are based on a passion so they can be very enjoyable to work on and complete. Typically when you are working on a project and you do not enjoy it can render negative results with the outcome but I saw a lot of progress because most of the people enjoyed it. With all of the flexibility, there are a couple of different project ideas. Some of these ideas include my group's modular drone, another groups video game console or another group's topographical projector.
My Personal Smart Goal is to improve my soldering skill by the end of this year.
Specific: I want to improve my soldering so the soldering jobs are cleaner and have a better connection Measurable: I want to improve my skills by the end of the year and I will be able to tell when the job is cleaner Attainable: This goal is easily attainable by practising soldering at home and at school when I can Relevant: This goal is worth my time because it will make it so whenever I solder it will be a nicer job Timely: I want this goal completed by the end of this year My School Smart Goal is to have above 70 in English and Social Studies Specific: I want to have above 70 in English and social so I can have good grade records Measurable: I will be able to see when I succeed when my grades are 70 Attainable: This goal is very attainable with extra studying and hard work Relevant: This goal can help me get into secondary educations more easily Timely: I have until the end of this semester to get the good marks Today Paul Davis an internet security expert had come to our school to educate us about internet safety. We talked about the security of social media, online games, and cyber-bullying. Honestly, these presentations are good but three-quarters of the stuff he was teaching us we already known from past presentations. There were a few interesting things like MAC addresses but that was really all. One thing that really bugged me that he said in the presentations is he said you should cover any front-facing cameras on devices, but most computer front-facing cameras have a light to indicate if there is any power going through it.
On September 13 all of the academys form W.H.Croxford went to the Rocky View Ed-Center to take professional pictures of each other and we also learned how to improve our webpage. This took the entire day and it was not the most exciting, it was mostly siting and listening to the speakers. I did not find this a great day but I am happy about the input on our webpages.
